This is an outdoor pink sandstone temple built as an open, four-pillar mandap structure, with a 4×4 ft pillar base and an overall height of 9 feet. It comes from Shri Krishna Stone Company, a stone temple manufacturer in Dausa, Rajasthan that has been carving sandstone temples since 2016. The design is open on all sides rather than enclosed, so the carved pillars, the arches and the rear panel stay visible from more than one angle once it is placed outdoors.

Four fluted sandstone pillars carry a projecting stone chhajja, a stepped pyramid-style shikhara and a rounded finial at the top. The chhajja extends out beyond the pillar line on all four sides, and behind the central opening sits a solid sandstone panel carved with a large decorative motif.

Size and Dimensions

The 4×4 ft measurement is the pillar base of the temple — the space the four pillars occupy on the ground. The chhajja above projects out beyond this base on all sides, so the roofline covers a slightly larger area than the footprint alone. The 9 ft overall height is measured from the base to the top of the finial, and includes the pillars, the chhajja, the stepped shikhara and the finial itself.

This footprint doesn’t account for the space you’ll need around the temple — for walking access, for viewing it from the front and sides, or for any flooring or platform planned underneath it. Site conditions and installation requirements, especially for a terrace or upper-floor location, should be confirmed with the manufacturer before the order is finalized.

Pink Sandstone Material

The entire structure — pillars, arches, rear panel, chhajja and shikhara — is carved from pink sandstone. Using one material throughout keeps the finish and tone consistent across the piece rather than mixing stone types for different parts. Like any natural stone, individual blocks of sandstone can show slight variation in shade and texture from one piece to another, which is normal for hand-carved stonework and not a defect.

Four-Pillar Open Mandap Design

Four pillars support the structure — two at the front, standing free, and two at the rear, positioned on either side of the carved back panel. All four are carved to the same pattern: a rounded, fluted shaft, a carved base ringed with petal-like detailing, and a decorative band near the top where the shaft meets the arch. The pillars sit at the four corners rather than along solid walls, so the sides stay open and the carving on the pillars, arches and rear panel remains visible from the front, the sides, and partly from behind as well.

Arches and Rear Carved Panel

The openings on the front and sides are framed by multi-cusped, scalloped arches. Along the top edge of each arch, and at the points where the arch meets the pillar, there’s carved floral detailing with rosette medallions worked into the stone, giving the front of the temple a layered, pavilion-like look rather than a plain rectangular opening.

The back of the temple isn’t open — a solid sandstone panel closes it off, and this is where most of the fine carving is concentrated. The panel carries one large motif running vertically down its center: a pointed, eye-like shape near the top, with flame-like fronds spreading outward from it, and curling, vine-style scrollwork continuing down toward the base. Set between the two rear pillars and framed by the arch above it, this panel is really the visual centerpiece of the whole structure — it’s the part most visible when the temple is approached from the front.

Chhajja, Shikhara and Finial

Above the pillars and arches, a broad stone chhajja projects outward on all four sides. The underside of this projecting roof carries a carved trellis band along with floral scrollwork, rather than being left plain.

Sitting on top of the chhajja is a stepped, pyramid-style shikhara — not a dome. It’s built up from several courses of small stone blocks, each course a little smaller than the one below it, so the shikhara narrows in visible steps as it rises. At the very top is a rounded, bulb-shaped finial, which closes off the structure and gives it its final height.

Where Can This 4×4 Ft Temple Be Used?

Because it’s open-sided rather than enclosed, this design tends to suit outdoor spaces where it can be seen and approached from more than one direction:

  • Home gardens and front lawns
  • Courtyards and open compound areas
  • Farmhouse grounds
  • Terraces or rooftop spaces, where the surface and access can support it
  • Outdoor community or shared worship spaces

It isn’t built as an indoor pooja mandir, and it isn’t meant to be tucked against a wall with only one visible side — the carving on the pillars, arches and rear panel is designed to be seen from the outside.

These details, along with anything related to site preparation, are best confirmed directly with the manufacturer before production begins rather than assumed from this page.

FAQs

What is the size of this outdoor pink sandstone temple?

This outdoor pink sandstone temple has a 4×4 ft pillar base and an overall height of 9 feet, including the chhajja, shikhara and finial.

Is this a closed temple or an open mandap?

It’s an open mandap. Four pillars support the chhajja, and the sides stay open — only the rear panel is solid, so it isn’t built as an enclosed indoor mandir.

What stone is this temple made from?

Pink sandstone, used across the pillars, arches, rear panel, chhajja and shikhara, so the whole structure has a consistent stone finish.

How many pillars does this temple have, and what’s the design?

Four pillars — two at the front, two at the rear. Each has a rounded, fluted shaft, a carved petal-detailed base, and a decorative band near the top.

Does this temple have a shikhara or a dome?

This design has a stepped pyramid-style shikhara with a rounded ornamental finial at the top, not a dome.

How much space should I keep around a 4×4 ft outdoor temple?

The temple itself has a 4×4 ft stated footprint, but additional space may be needed for access, viewing and installation. Exact site requirements should be discussed with the manufacturer.

Can this temple be made in a different size?

Yes. Share the width, depth and height you need, along with your location, and the team can work out a design and quotation for that size.

Can this design be used in a garden or courtyard? Yes. The open, four-pillar layout suits gardens, courtyards, farmhouse grounds and similar outdoor spaces where the carving can be seen from more than one side.

Do you provide delivery and installation support? Delivery is available across India, and installation support is offered where applicable. Site-specific details should be confirmed with the manufacturer before the order is finalized.
