The process usually starts with raw sandstone blocks being cut down to the sizes needed for a project. From there, the stone is shaped and prepared before carving begins — some of it done by hand, especially for temple pillars, domes, and statue work, and some through CNC-supported carving for repetitive jali patterns where precision matters more than individual craftsmanship. Once carved, each piece goes through finishing before it's set aside for assembly or dispatch, depending on whether it's part of a larger temple structure or a standalone piece.

Our Sandstone Temple Manufacturing Process
Stone Selection
Not all sandstone blocks are the same — grain, colour, and surface consistency vary even within the same quarry lot. Our first job is picking blocks that match what the design calls for, whether that's red Dholpur stone for a warmer look or pink Bansi Paharpur for finer carving.
Cutting & Sizing
This is where the project actually takes shape, dimension-wise. Selected blocks are cut down to the sizes a pillar, panel, or dome section will need — get this stage wrong and everything carved afterward is compromised, so measurements are checked against the design before cutting.
Shaping & Structural Preparation
A cut block still doesn't look like part of a temple. It needs rounding, squaring, or curving depending on what it's becoming — a pillar, a jali frame, a dome segment. This stage is less about detail and more about getting the structural form right before carving starts.
Hand Carving & Detailing
This is the slowest part of the process, and there's no shortcut for it. Craftsmen work directly on the stone, adding the figures, patterns, and surface detailing that define how a temple or statue actually looks — the time this takes depends entirely on how intricate the design is.
CNC Jali / Decorative Work
Jali panels are a different challenge — the pattern has to repeat exactly across the whole panel, which hand carving alone makes harder to keep consistent. CNC-supported carving handles this part, working alongside our carvers rather than instead of them.
Finishing & Quality Check
Once carving is done, pieces are smoothed and checked over — surfaces evened out, minor irregularities corrected. It's the stage where small mistakes get caught before a piece is considered ready to move forward.
Assembly / Dispatch Preparation
Depending on the project, finished pieces are either put together at the workshop to check fit, or packed as-is for dispatch, with final assembly happening on-site. Larger temple structures usually go the second route, since full assembly only makes sense at the installation location.
